This town is located thertyfive kilometer far from Milano
and Pavia, as both for its strategic position ( next to the
Ticino river) and for the rich soil since the ancient origin, 
before the year 1000,  centre of chellenges and battles. 
During the Barbarian battles it was the shelter  of people
living in the nearby. It was envolved into different battles 
against the nearest communes for more than 150 years.
During the "Visconteo" period , the city begun to grow, 
the fortress and the castle have been extended;  Luchino
Visconti wanted to build the " strada coperta" (1347) 
which over the houses connects the castle to the rock.
In the 1447, Milano with Pier Candido Decembrio 
proclaims  L'Aurea Repubblica Ambrosiana but the 
Visconti army commander Francesco Sforza didn't 
agree to keep the town government.
In april 1449, Vigevano guided by Camilla
Rodolfi rebeled against Sforza family, ( they proclamed themselves
as an indipendent commune) but the battles guided by Colleoni 
stops on the 6th June with surrender of Vigevano people. 
Francesco Sforza conquisted Milano in the 1450 and became
the new Duke.The twenty years after until the Duke death in the 1470,
the town grown and developed itself, the Duke wanted the
castle for his vacations and hunting holiday. His son
Galeazzo Maria, called "Balordo ", has been killed into Santo
Stefano church in Milano; and for is young age the new duke
Gian Galeazzo Maria just 7 years old, Ludovico Maria 
called "Il Moro", brother of the killed, was able to nominated himself,
thank to Bona di Savoia, Luogotenente Generale del Ducato 
and took the power which stopped in Novara in the 1500 with
the battle against the french army, that imposhioned him 
and after died in the 1508.
Ludovico Il Moro, during his domination wanted to take care
of the fields and in the 486 drained the country,extended the  
canals (Naviglio Sforzesco and Roggia Mora) helping in this
way the rise, cereal and silkworm  field, he wanted to build 
several farms (and a special one: Sforzesca), Pegorara 
and Camina.
The new  stables of the castle are dated 1490, and in the
1492, he did it bigger beginnig to build the tower, Loggia delle
Dame and Falconeria.
In the same year under the project of Donato Bramante is 
realised one of the most beautiful Renaissance italian square
(Piazza Ducale), finished in the 1494 the same year of the 
nomination of Ludovico il Moro as Duke, after the death of 
the last Duke for strange and unknow reason, his nephew 
Gian Galeazzo Sforza in Pavia castle.
Ludovico il Moro, " used" from 1492 to 1494 also of the 
genius of  Leonardo Da Vinci (his project is the farm
La Sforzesca ) he was positiv and genius mind for Ludovico.
