Today there are no rouins of the great fortress built 
during the Middle Ages ( three castles with a 
different period walls ), as the village has been 
rebuilt several times sacked and semi destroyed; 
the first time by Barbarossa in  the 1155, after it 
has been occupied by the French army, so by the
Spanish and in a more recent period from the
Aurtian one. Since  XIV century it belonged to 
Malaspina ( you can see on the noble coat of arms 
on the great Door (1705) ancient entrance to the 
village survived untile now. During the century after 
the several flood of Po river, it's really changed, and
people had to build the houses on the highest 
part of it after the catastrofic flood in the 1705, and in order 
to thank the Holy Virgin for having let the river coming
back , the hinabitants built in 1714 the Sanctuarty
dedicated to  Madonna della Fontana.Inside you
can admire the fresco her dedicated and other beautiful
painting of the XVIII century. On 1700 have been built 
Villa Pollini, Palazzo Pollone,  Palazzo Allevi,  and 
Palazzo Fugazza. In the centre of Sannazzaro, in 
the parish church of gothic period, built in the 1400, 
but changed several times, it is posssible to admire 
also fresco of the 1500, the wood sculpture of Santi 
Patroni Nazzaro e Celso ( XIV century ) and  
Crocefisso ( XV century ). In the nearby there is also
a naturalistic park ( with regional administration ) 
containing a part of Po river that goes from the iron 
bridge where is possible to observe the beautiful fauna.
Into the little Agognetta park  (protected area) you can 
see aqatic birds to nest and , if you're lucky, you can
meet the marsh tortoise.On 16th  and 17th June Proloco
together with the Communeand  Federazione Italiana 
Cuochi ( Chef italian Federation) organizes the 
" Sagra del Riso ", this year is the XX edition, with the
assignation of the "Chicco d'Oro " to the best beginner
in Lomellina. The Mark square, is changed in a beatiful 
restaurant able to keep 300 costumers, where the rise of
lomellina is the main ingredient of the gastronomic 
country life, kooked as " risotto alla milanese" with pork 
pasta, tasting as mushrooms,as champagne, and so on. 
All together with the best wine from  Oltrepò Pavese….. so,
Buon Appetito! 
The event's programme contains music events and 
at 12 o'clock on 17th June Premio  Bella Lombardia is
assigned. Between all the festivals organised we have to
advice you also  the concert of the famous band- Mondine 
di Valle - that with their traditional love and fight song help
you to remember their hard and tiring working day, into the 
rise field, as a kind of agricolture today no more existing.
