It is especially an ancient agricoltural village, it has been built during the Gallo-Roman Age. You can see that seeing lots of the graves of that period, found at the beginning of the 1900s, of the left side of the Agogna river, in the place called Mortizza. The first documentation is about on July 1164, and belongs to Conti Palatini of Lomello, member of Olevano that lived in the castle built under their will and destroyed by Barbarossa. It has been rebuilt and catch by Facino Cane in the 1404. In the 1469 under the will of Federico III° it has been linked to Attendolo - Bolognini. Since 1551 to 1557 it belonged to Beccaria. In that period the french army destroyed it; so it has been rebuilt for the second time, but in the 1745,it was destroyed by the Austrian army again. Today we can see really little of that castle, even after the rebuilding in the 1758, under the control of the architect Lorenzo Cassani the main esponent of the Barock in Pavia. S. Salvatore church and San Michele are remembered since the 1259 and they have been built by Olevano who together with their descendents, Sir. Marchese Baldassarre from Olevano in 1753 built a new parish church in renaissence style completed with the old bell tower in the 1749. In Olevano in the 1994 has been inaugurated the museum of village art and traditions in order to let the people know the ancient Lomellina's culture. On the 15 August (ferragosto) together with the fest of San Rocco there is " La sagra del Salam dla duia " tipical pork salami conserved in fat, in a special big earthenware box called "le olle". San Michele coulselin festival, the fourth Sunday of October with folkloristic and cultural venets linked to the descovering of the country traditions importance. |
