Cozzo
Home page
Its roots are really ancient, perhaps founded by the
Celts;but it was during the Romanic Age that the
village developed itself. It is sure it was a Townhall
and an important station on the rout for Torino.
It belonged until the Middle Ages to the Lomello
Counts. Federico Barbarossa, in 1163 gave it to
Gonfalonieri of Pavia.
After it passed to "Milanesi", that built a castle
around it in 1244 and after Count Francesco Sforza
in 1465 presented it to the family Gallarati, wich
extended the fortress. Today there are only the two
towers of the castle, and the land was the country
home of the family Gallarati - Scotti.
Today it is centre of the community " Mondo X " for
rehabilitatingdrug addicts.
Inside there are rooms with some frescoes,
( one of these shows the meeting between Luigi
XII King of France with Pietro Gallarati,in the 1499).
In the nearby you have to see the typical castle of
Celpenchio.
