Its existence is documented since the X century, in 1191
it belonged to Pavia and after, in 1449 to Vigevano. 
Today we have no ruins of the ancient fortress built in 
the biginning of the X century. Today in the Townhall, 
it is possible to see in the western façade a tower 
with a drawbridge that is the entrance. 
Cilavegna in 1636 and until the end of 1700 belonged
to Palatini Counts. Even if  there are lot of industial 
establishment, it mantains its traditional agricoltural 
property, together with the aspargus growing, which 
quality is excellent. 
The second Sunday of May you can go to the "Sagra 
dell' Asparago " ( Aspargus Village fest) , that every 
year lots of tourists choose to visit, for the gastonomic
tastings and for the selling of the first spring asparuses. 
During the event you can enjoy yourself with the
" Palio dei Maiali " ( Pigs Palio) where " jockeys " , 
representing the districs and in a eighteenth-century dresses,
ride the pigs trying to win between grunts and laughs.
