Bereguardo, it is a little suburb in the middle of the Parco del Ticino's woods. Since the Middle Ages it was really very important for its strategic position, in defence of the Ticino's bridge and the cultivated land that spread towards Milano and Pavia. It was Luchino Visconti, which wanted to extend and fortify the castle between the 1292 and the 1349. After in 1386 Gian Galeazzo Visconti adopted it as a hunting domicile. In 1400 it became Sforza propriety, and they pulled down the bridge, replacing it with a pontoon bridge, that in case of assault would be removed, leaving to the river with its strong streams the purpose to oppose all the invasion attempt. |
